"Mary Lou" Saso of San Andreas, a gardener and gifted artist, died in Felton, Nov. 25, 2024, after fighting cancer.
Mary Lou was born April 10, 1954, in Castro Valley, to Papa Louie and Virginia Saso. She was one of eight children, six brothers & one sister.
She spent summers in the ‘60s at River Grove Park, a campground in the Santa Cruz Mountains owned by her parents and another family.
In Saratoga the family established the Saso Herb Gardens. She worked in her mom's shop, where they made and sold dried flower wreaths and crafts. Mary Lou carried her mom's legacy forward, endlessly creating wreaths and other art. (see below)
Mary Lou was a caregiver to many throughout her life, including her mother, who had dementia for the last several years of her life.
In the late 1990s, Mary Lou met Glaine Harbecker, the love of her life. They lived in the San Lorenzo Valley until they moved to San Andreas in 2014.
Mary leaves behind her daughter, Sarah, grandson, Rogers and her son Clay. She also is survived by her brothers: Steve, Mike, Tom, and Chris and her sister, Copperwoman. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Glaine, and by her brothers, Bob and Jim.
A celebration of life is set for 1pm. on May 10, 2025 at the home of Tom Saso & Laurence Gathy in Felton.
